Fertility Walk ~ Fertility Book Series

Tamara Tobias, ARNP

Day 1 - This is Your Hike
Say or write down 3 things you are grateful for. This can be very simple or detailed and you can do it any way you like. You can text a friend your ‘gratefuls’ or just write them down here.

Trailhead Tip: Say or write down three things you are grateful for.

Day 0 - The Kick Off
Today is what we call, “Day 0,” in the fertility field. This begins after ovulation, intrauterine insemination, or egg retrieval. I encourage you to find peace today and each day to follow on this final stretch to the summit. Note: The exact number of days may vary, depending on your clinic. If you had a blastocyst embryo transfer, for example, you may only have 6 days to wait as the count starts with the egg retrieval.

Trailhead Tip: Download a relaxation or meditation app

Day 2 - Hug a Loved One
Give a loved one a hug, just because. Write a note to your partner or send a card to a friend. Oh, this can go a long ways; it benefits the giver and the receiver. You may feel like you’re the only one on this journey - but those that love you are feeling your stress too or may even be dealing with their own struggles. I gave my mom a huge hug out of nowhere for no reason and she just smiled and hugged right back.

Trailhead Tip: Give a loved one a hug, just because.

Fertility Walk

As you approach the Two-Week Wait or 2WW (the time after ovulation, intrauterine insemination, or embryo transfer until you can take a pregnancy test), I know your heart is beating faster with anticipation. You are almost at the summit now and these next few steps can seem the hardest, requiring extra self-management, physically and emotionally.

Well, this guidebook is about the POSITIVE things you CAN do during this time and to help you track your progress. Although you cannot control the outcome, you can control what to do during this waiting period. My hope is that you use this journal as another walking tool on your fertility journey, as an essential part of your hiking gear. I encourage you to save this journal as a keepsake to reflect how far you’ve come, especially when your dream DOES come true.

This is YOUR journey! It’s time to lace up your hiking boots and finish the trail to the top. Keep looking ahead and explore some of the trailhead tips as we walk through the two-week wait . . . together.
